Special Update

Shaking and Quaking

Although the quake which struck this morning in the Santa Cruz islands was reported initially as an 8.0, the USGS has now registered it as a 7.0 shaker.

quakeThe red box in the picture (right) is this morning's latest event.  Those other colors of boxes are recent historical quakes in the area and you'll see that this is at a sort of "north" at the edge of the Pacific Plate.

If I were one to wildly speculate, with no hard science to back it up, I could envision enough earth movement happenering here to break off this protrusion and that would free up the Pacific Plate's big moves which may follow, and it's in there that the prospect of a global coastal event seems, at least intuitively, likely to occur.

It's very much as Patrick Geryl noted this morning, more than perhaps coincidental that this happened while the Earth was experiencing a solar shockwave of a c-class solar flare.

We've queried our Jakarata bureau and I expect word later today or tomorrow (for Peoplenomics.com subscribers) on that.  Plus, the Pn report tomorrow will deal with aspects of dreams which may be messaging us about what's to come off of some of our www.nationaldreamcenter.com postings since the Japan quakes.

The Digital Storm

Much is being made today about the digital impacts of the snow, which is now falling, on much of the nation's northeast.  While reports circulate that FEMA is predicting blackouts, there's been something of a run on ATM's as people try to get cash ahead of events.

Since I could be labeled a long-term "prepper" I find this weekend's storm to be something of a large-scale social experiment:  Why will people hoard money when (if I have the forecast right) there won't be much of anywhere to spend it?

On the other hand, a rocket stove or camp stove, a bunch of hot soup, perhaps some freeze-dried foods (like the beef stroganoff I'm partial to) would seem to make a lot more sense and collecting paper.

Storms have become something of a mass-marketing (and perhaps mass-psychosis) in 'Merica.  Storms have brands - names like Sandy, and now this one is NEMO

To be sure, it's going to be a heavy snowfall, and probably, yes, some records will fall.  Will it surpass past blizzards?  A fine question that...ask me next week and I might find an answer for you.

In the meantime, if you've been a prepper, you'll have food, water, alternate source of heat and power, plus a shortwave (better: ham) radio to keep you updated.  We may sound like crazy people for prepping - until the digital storm effect click in.  Then we're the people you want to borrow things from.

Enjoy global warming.
